According to Shacknews Hellgate London’s servers are going to be shut down after January 31, 2009. The game has been fraught with issues since its original launch. The original studio, Flagship, dissolved after the game launched and the game has been both a critical and commercial failure. Perhaps if the game had launched with more polish, shine, and balance, it could have been a success, but this game, that was once hearalded as the spiritual successor to Diablo has turned into a real dud.
