Starcraft 2 To Be A Trilogy

I’m not sure how a sequel can be a trilogy, but this is so bizarre I figured I’d share anyway. At Blizzcon this weekend, Blizzard announced that Starcraft 2’s campaign would be released as a trilogy. That is to say, it will be released via separate discs. What is absolutely appaling is that there is no sensible need for them to do this. Unless each race has like a 20 mission campaign, I just don’t see how they will do this without it being completely terrible for the consumer.

If you played previous Starcraft or Warcraft games you’d know that in Starcraft they gave you a Human, Zerg, and Protoss campaign. In Warcraft 3 you had a tutorial, Human, Undead, Orc, and Night Elf campaign. In Starcraft 2 you’ll have a Human, Zerg, and Protoss campaign sound familiar? What a joke. This sounds like Activision’s Guitar Hero business model applied to Starcraft and I think it sucks.

I know that on the consoles games are launching at $60 now, but on the PC we still pay about $40 a game and we like it. Blizzard has TONS of money coming in from World of Warcraft. Oh and they’re coming out with Diablo 3 too, so why are they getting greedy all of a sudden? Perhaps they’ll go the Valve route and make it episodic or something, but I just don’t know. I think this is very dumb on their part. Blizzard created a loyal fanbase by delighting them with great games and great customer experiences. Blizzard did not find their success by being greedy. Shame on you Blizzard.
