Stardock is still workign on its space strategy game Galactic Civilizations II. Today the company announced that they have released a massive update to the game which they are calling “version 2.0.” This is a great update to a fantastic game. There is an official tour of all of the new features the updates includes on the game’s website. Among the updates are new ship design from the main menu, new setup options, updated options for diplomacy, automating the building of planets and starbases, graphics updates and more. This update is absolutely massive and is just one more reason to love Stardock. Great going Stardock, you rule!
While Spore has held a sales stranglehold on the whole PC game industry since it launched, this week marks the day when Far Cry 2 takes its place on top. It’s especially impressive given the onslaught of great games starting to roll out. Soon we’ll be seeing Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, and Red Alert 3 showing up on the charts. In the meantime, it’s nice to see the sequel to Far Cry living up to its pedigree.
Of course when Wrath of the Lich King comes out, we know who will be on top then.
1. Far Cry 2 – Ubisoft
2. Spore – Electronic Arts
3. Nancy Drew: The Haunting of Castle Malloy – Her Interactive
4. World of Warcraft: Battle Chest – Blizzard
5. The Sims 2 Apartment Live – Electronic Arts
6. Dead Space – Electronic Arts
7. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe – Electronic Arts
8. Warhammer Online – Mythic/EA
9. World of Warcraft – Blizzard
10. Civilization IV: Colonizaton – Firaxis/2K Games
(week ending October 25th)
The expansion to the well-known computer benchmark widowmaker, Crysis, dubbed Crysis Warhead has been getting solid reviews and also is on sale for the low-low price of $20 on Amazon.com. It’s not a half bad deal if you are just itchin to get your Crysis on. Perhaps by now your machine can handle this game, but who knows. Anyhow, it’s not a half bad deal if fps’s are your thing. However, if you’re looking for the game of the holiday season, you might want to check out Farcry 2 or Fallout 3. Both of those have been getting excellent reviews, so it might be a tossup as to which would be the better “deal”.
Just when you thought everybody and their brother is playing Wolrd of Warcraft and there couldn’t be any growth for such a massive game, well you’re wrong. I just saw that World of Warcraft has now crossed the 11 million subscriber mark. 11 Million. That’s just plain ridiculous. Seriously. (more…)
I was surfing around Gametrailers and found yet another cool morsel of Fallout goodness. This time it’s the Fallout Retrospective. I’m a huge fan of the retrospectives that Gametrailers does. It is fun to watch a sort of bird’s eye view of a game series as well as just catching up on the high points of a franchise. Admittedly I haven’t played every single game ever made, so it’s fun to go back and see what I’ve missed. Anyhow, we’ve embedded the video below, so check it out. (more…)
Hey, if you aren’t going to preload Fallout 3 on Steam, you should really start asking around about a midnight launches at your local Gamestop and Best Buy. Apparently there are going to be some 1,600 Gamestop’s opening at 10pm tonight, the 27th to let gamers have the game at midnight. How cool is that? Of course, I’m not sure if that includes your local store, so please call ahead first. (more…)
In case you didn’t know not only do we have Farcry 2, Fallout 3, and many other heavyweight games coming out this fall for the PC, we also have the Grand Theft Auto juggernaut coming as well. Grand Theft Auto 4 is coming out on December 2, 2008, so be watching for that. In the meantime check out the trailer below… (more…)
According to Shacknews Hellgate London’s servers are going to be shut down after January 31, 2009. The game has been fraught with issues since its original launch. The original studio, Flagship, dissolved after the game launched and the game has been both a critical and commercial failure. Perhaps if the game had launched with more polish, shine, and balance, it could have been a success, but this game, that was once hearalded as the spiritual successor to Diablo has turned into a real dud.
This week Bioware announced a brand new MMORPG set in the Star Wars universe. It will be called Star Wars: The Old Republic. As the title implies, it will be set in the pre-movie time period of the Old Republic, similar to Bioware’s previous title Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. This news is by no means surprising given the fact that Bioware, who was formerly very much a second-party Microsoft developer, was bought by EA in the last year and I think this game might be the reason. Each week and every day we are getting a little bit closer to the craziest time of year for gamers – the holiday season. That means huge games dropping nearly every week. Fallout 3 is no exception. It looks fantastic and if you can’t wait, you can start preloading the game on everybody’s favorite digital download service – Steam. I’m stoked and I think it’s going to be a real huge game this holiday. It’s definately this year’s Bioshock. Excited? Go preload the game yourself!
