Warhammer Online To Get Two New Classes

While Warhammer Online was still in development, they had to cut four of the classes so that the game would be balanced and could ship on time. This is quite common in game development, but as always fans tend to get upset when they think they aren’t getting the ultimate game they always wanted. Luckily, Mythic Entertainment cares enough about their game to keep working until they get it just right. (more…)

Halo 3 Recon is Bungie’s Last Halo Game

In an interview at GamesIndustry.biz, Bungie’s Community Director indicated that Halo 3 Recon is going to be Bungie’s last Halo game and they will be moving on to other games outside the Halo universe. As a PC gamer I’m super stoked because if nothing else, I think this could mean that Bungie will be moving back to its PC roots possibly. (more…)

Warhammer Online Sells 750,000 Copies

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s official. Warhammer Online is a hit. Not even a small it. It’s a pretty decently sized hit. I just came across the news that Warhammer Online has sold over 750,000 copies. That’s still a far cry from World of Warcraft’s 10 million gamer installed base, but for a game that’s only been out for a month, I’m seriously impressed. I don’t know if you remember when WoW first came out, Blizzard’s servers melted over and over again. Eventually they caught up, but the crush of demand clearly has shown the industry that they need to be prepared. Warhammer Online seem to be up to the challenge because I haven’t heard of any major outages thus far. (more…)

Starcraft 2 To Be A Trilogy

I’m not sure how a sequel can be a trilogy, but this is so bizarre I figured I’d share anyway. At Blizzcon this weekend, Blizzard announced that Starcraft 2’s campaign would be released as a trilogy. That is to say, it will be released via separate discs. What is absolutely appaling is that there is no sensible need for them to do this. Unless each race has like a 20 mission campaign, I just don’t see how they will do this without it being completely terrible for the consumer.

If you played previous Starcraft or Warcraft games you’d know that in Starcraft they gave you a Human, Zerg, and Protoss campaign. In Warcraft 3 you had a tutorial, Human, Undead, Orc, and Night Elf campaign. In Starcraft 2 you’ll have a Human, Zerg, and Protoss campaign sound familiar? What a joke. This sounds like Activision’s Guitar Hero business model applied to Starcraft and I think it sucks. (more…)

Mines of Moria Release Date Announced

If you aren’t a World of Warcraft fan, but you do love a good MMO, this fall seems to be overcrowded with new, interesting, or just plain expanded MMORPG’s. Case in point, Mines of Moria, the Lord of the Rings Online expansion has announced its release date. It will launch November 18th.  It’s available as both a digital upgrade as well as two different flavors of retail boxes. As per industry standards, there is a regular and collector’s edition version of the game. Check out the trailer after the jump. (more…)

BioWare To Announce KoTOR MMO This Month

Hey, just this in. In next month’s issue of PC Gamer, it looks like Bioware will finally announce what is likely to be the worst kept secret in the computer gaming world – a Knights of The Old Republic based MMORPG. As you may well know, LucasArts partnered with Sony Online Entertainment to create Star Wars Galaxies, but that game has really not been neary the kind of success in the last few years that games like World of Warcraft or even Lord of the Rings Online have had. Knights of The Old Republic is an absolute classic game and it’s very exciting to think about the possibility of a MMO based around it. Needless to say, this announcement is going to be a big one and I can’t wait.

Fallout 3 Goes Gold

Hey everybody, just picked up some great news! Fallout 3 has gone gold. That means that Fallout 3 is finished and is ready to be shipped to manufacturing and eventually into stores near you. If you’ve got a fairly recent PC, you should be able run this game which is sure to be an instant classic. After the last few Bethesda classics such as Morrowind and Oblivion, I’m quite excited to see how this plays out. Oh and if you don’t have enough of a PC to play this game it will be on the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well. Check out the full post for a trailer as well. (more…)

Warhammer Online Buzz

Though I haven’t had the chance to dive in myself, it seems that Warhammer Online has created quite a bit of buzz for itself. It’s averaged an 88/100 across all reveiws, which would seem to indicate that the game doesn’t suck. Then again, an 8.8/10 for most sites would put it at like a 4/5 here, so again, that is in the realm of being a very good game. Game of the Year? Who knows, but the game is buzzing that is for sure. A friend of mine is going to try the game out, so I’ll let you know they think of it. In the meantime, happy gaming!

Piracy, DRM, and Spore

As you very well might know Spore finally came out a few weeks ago and the response seems overwhelmingly negative from the hardcore PC gaming crowd which seems a bit unfair. Most of the controversy seems to stem around the whole SecuROM DRM fiasco. I will be first in line to say that PC games need to find a much much much better solution to this problem. However, I think that the “hardcore” crowd needs to rethink their position. Then again, so does EA. (more…)

Capitalism II Review

Last weekend as I was perusing GameTap, I stumbled across a game that seemed like it could quickly become a guilty pleasure. The game was Capitalism II. The premise of the game is fairly straightforward – it is a business simulation game, so it plays a lot like Sim City, but instead of managing a city, you manage a business empire. I’ll admit I’m a big fan of strategy games and simulation games, so this game should be right up my alley. Was it? Well….. (more…)
