Check this out, this weekend the Rockstar Games collection is 50% off on Steam. It’s really a pretty awesome deal. The collection includes Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto 2, Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Max Payne, Max Payne 2, Midnight Club 2, Manhunt, and Wild Metal. For $30, you really can’t beat this collection. The GTA games are obviously great games, but I’m a sucker for Max Payne. Bullet time and a kind of film noir story are just too much fun to pass up. Anyway, the deal I think ends on September 29th, so if you want some cheap, fun games, you shouldn’t pass this up.
So, in an effort to keep up with the wide world of PC gaming, I’m going to start posting what amounts to meta-reviews, or more or less a review roundup from different sources. I’ve seen some other blogs do this and I think it gives you a good perspective on a game’s merits. Also, it helps me share info about a game without having to go through the trouble of playing it(in case it’s a stinker). Here we go!!! (more…)
As I’m trying to decide the next game I choose to review, it occured to me that most of the games that I own I tend to really enjoy, so as I review them, it’s going to be hard to really complain that they aren’t that good. I don’t want you as a reader to think that I’m soft on all games or anything like that, so it made me think about how gamers buy games. (more…)
I’ve been a GameTap user and subscriber for quite some time now and so I thought I would do a review on their service as well as give a gamer’s perspective on what GameTap has evolved into. Gametap is an online gaming service run by Turner, a Time Warner Company. If it seems a bit odd to you that the same company that brought us TBS and TNT is bringing you games, keep in mind that they also own Cartoon Network, so on some level the company does “get it”. Anyway… (more…)
This week Blizzard annouced that Wrath of the Lich King is going to launch November 13th, 2008. This is the second expansion for World of Warcraft and it looks like it’s going to be a real blockbuster. The original launch of World of Warcraft four years ago was so big that Blizzard was caught flat-footed. Servers were overloaded and for a time it seemed that the game was too successful. Eventually, Blizzard caught up. By the time the first expansion launched the server problems all seemed to be smoothed out and now the game has over 10 million subscribers. Anyhow, WoW is a great game that is completely worth checking out. It’s not perfect, but it’s always getting better. If you want to pre-order you can do so at Best Buy, Amazon, Gamestop, or most other retailers.

Most gamers don’t know much about the game studios that produce their games. Of course, some people are aware of the bigger ones such as Bungie, makers of Halo, EA, makers of Madden, and Rockstar, makers of Grand Theft Auto. However, there are a lot of other companies out there that don’t seem to get the credit that they deserve. One such company is Ensemble Studios, makers of the Age of Empires series and the forthcoming Halo Wars game. (more…)
The Civilization series has a long history. It started over fifteen years ago with a game that resembled something of a mixture between Risk and Sim City. Since then it has spawned at least three sequels, a handful of expansions, and is available on a multitude of platforms beyond just the PC. Though it is not as flashy as some strategy games, it carved itself a nice little niche as something between a board game like Risk and a real time strategy game like Starcraft. (more…)
